It accounts for around 25%–32% of all female cancers in India as per the National Cancer Registry.[1] Advances in oncology have led to effective treatment of breast cancers. Availability of better chemotherapeutic agents has made breast surgery possible for tumours that were previously considered inoperable.

Perioperative regional anaesthesia and postoperative longer-term outcomes
Regional anaesthesia provides effective anaesthesia and analgesia in the perioperative setting. Central neuraxial blocks-that is, spinal and epidural blocks-are well established as an alternative or adjunct to general anaesthesia. Peripheral blocks may be used as part of multimodal anaesthesia/analgesia in perioperative practice, reducing the need for opioid analgesics and enhancing early recov...

Interpleural blockade is effective in treating unilateral surgical and non-surgical pain from the chest and upper abdomen in both the acute and chronic settings. It has been shown to provide safe, high-quality analgesia after cholecystectomy, thoracotomy, renal and breast surgery, and for certain invasive radiological procedures of the renal and hepatobiliary systems. It has also been used succ...

Ultrasound guidance is rapidly becoming the gold standard for regional anaesthesia. There is an ever growing weight of evidence, matched with improving technology, to show that the use of ultrasound has significant benefits over conventional techniques, such as nerve stimulation and loss of resistance. The improved safety and efficacy that ultrasound brings to regional anaesthesia will help pro...
